Aging Gracefully

Rosanna Arquette, talking with Shelby Lynne in the August Interview, quoted Tom Petty saying that rock and roll has gone the way of jazz and the blues. I think that may be the thing that saves it. The IFPI has determined that the average age of music consumers is increasing. All of this points to an increase in sophistication and a return, of sorts, to quality issues that were seldom indulged in the 1970s.

What Paul McCartney said in the late 1960s, that pop music is the classical music of now, is true.
