The UK Remains Best Music Market

22 March 2005, 22:01

No surprise at all: The UK is still the “world’s biggest music buyer” according to the British Phonographic Industry. I can’t recall within my lifetime when the UK wasn’t the dominant music market. Having seen the mass appeal music has in the UK only reinforced what I already knew to be fact.

Meanwhile, nearly all of the local record stores in NE Ohio have closed. Most of the chains have left town. I had to laugh when it was suggested that a Virgin Megastore would open here in a delayed tandem with the House of Blues. They’d already turned people against buying records at least 20 years ago; it’s too late to reverse now.
